Big Win For Brandon

ReportHeader

14 year old Wagga Motorcycle Racer Brandon Demmery competed at the 1st round of the Pirelli Road Racing Series held at Broadford, in Victoria on the weekend. After missing Qualifying due to an electrical gremlin, Brandon started every race from the rear of the 16 bike grid.

The tough youngster battled through a bad rib injury after a race 1 crash to win the remainder of the weekends races, and take out the round win. " The bike developed an oil leak in race 1. The oil ended up getting over the rear wheel, and caused a massive highside. I ended up nearly in the spectator area after going over the bars, but managed to restart the bike and finish the race in 3rd place" said Brandon. By getting back up, and completing the race on a damaged bike, it gave Brandon much needed points which went towards the overall round win. "I was really sore for the remainder of the weekend, with my rib injury making it hard to man handle the bike on the tight and twisty Broadford circuit. I am lucky to have a great mechanic who managed to get the bike repaired in time for the rest of the races" commented Brandon. With 1st places in race 2 and 3, Brandon secured the win in the 3 x 9 lap Saturday Sprint Races... Sunday saw a change to the regular format, with 2 x 18 lap feature races. "They were real hard" said Brandon "After about 8 laps the pain was bad, it was a real struggle just to hold on". Race 1 saw Brandon finish 2nd out of a field of 16, but he again showed what a talent he is, by backing up in race 2 to win, and ultimately win the Endurance style races series..."

18 laps was very hard, it really tested me, and showed me that maybe I need to boost up my fitness training a little more to help get through the demanding 18 lap races" said Brandon... Team Manager, Michael Demmery commented " He really showed what he is made of this weekend. We discussed getting him to sit out the Enduro's on Sunday, as I was concerned he was in too much pain, but he overrulled me and pushed past the pain to score a very well earned round win"

Brandon's next big meeting will be round 3 of the Australian Superbike Series in Qld the first weekend in June. Team Manager Michael commented " We decided to sit out round 2 of the Australian Superbike Series this weekend in Darwin for a number of reasons, first being we missed the truck as they bike was not repaired in time after destroying a clutch in round 1, secondly, the cost to travel so far, and the third was to give Brandon a chance to get over his injuries" Michael added " the cost issue never goes away. The crash on the weekend, which was no fault of Brandon's, cost the team a lot to repair. We are extremely lucky to have great supporters like NSW Compensation Lawyers, and Ron Crouch Transport helping, however it is a massive task to get to each and every meeting." The team will also try and get in a few test days before the QLD round to ensure the bike is ready to go, and that Brandon is at full fitness.
