Thursday saw the team make the long drive to Phillip Island for Round three of the Victorian Titles and the 5th Round of the Junior Victorian Titles. We had a few detours along the way to make first. We called via Hern Engineering to have some welding done on some of the bike bits, and to catch up with Pete and Chas. Chas had organized a meeting with the guys at Ron Angel to get a new set of boots. Grant and the team hooked us up with a cool set of XPD that fit really well and look great with his new leathers. We then had a short drive into Port Melbourne to meet up with Ree and Sam from Wilful Damage to pick up some new banners and signage to display at the track. Whilst in Port Melbourne we also caught up with Chris from Draggin Jeans to pick up their banners for display. We were having SDPics shoot a DVD of Brandon at the track and wanted to give our sponsors some good coverage.

Practice day, and we had hopes of some great lap times around a track that Brandon loves. The weather wasn’t quite the best, and we had to contend with gale force winds and showers through the whole day. We elected to sit out the first session hoping the wind would drop. We completed only minimum laps on Friday, but thought we had the gearing set up we needed for the weekend. Chas made the ride out to help, despite the rain, and was a much needed help.
5th September
After a late night Friday for me and Chas, we were all keen for a good showing on race day. We had two qualifying sessions and two races set for Saturday. Qualifying 1 saw Brandon disappointed with a 2:27 lap time. He had done 2:12s at the island before and expected to be nearer to that in qualifying, but the weather conditions were not quite right for a good lap time. Brandon complained that he felt the bike didn’t feel like it was producing the horse power it normally did. We changed main jets and tried a different gearing set up for qualifying 2, but couldn’t improve on the first session.
With only about 10 minutes from qualifying 2 to race 1 we didn’t have time for any major changes, and had to be content with a second row start.
Race 1 saw Brando really struggle. He couldn’t get his head around the wind blowing the bike around so much over Lukey Heights Siberia and didn’t ride anywhere near his potential.
Race 2 was more of the same, and we went away from the day quite disappointed with the results. Brandon kept a positive frame of mind and expected to be stronger on Sunday

6TH SEPTEMBER
Sunday saw a slight improvement in weather with the wind dropping slightly, however our results didn’t improve as much as we would have liked. We were still struggling with a bike that wouldn’t get off the corners as well as Brando would have liked. We were using a new brand of tyres, and were thought the problem lay with them. We chased tyre pressure thinking that would fix the problem, but we finally found that the bike wasn’t producing the horse power. We have dropped the bike off to Rick at Rick Heffernan Racing to see if he can sort the problem out before we run at the Island again on the long weekend in October.
