FESTIVAL OF CHAMPIONS RACE REPORT

Broadfordcrash

The Festival of Champions was held at the Broadford Motorcycle Complex on Saturday the 7th November in conjunction with the Hughie Hoare Memorial race. Juniors from all over Australia travelled to the event the pit their skills against each other for the chance to travel to Spain to contest the World championships.

We had a busy lead up to the event, only getting the engine in the bike Thursday night before we had to be on track Friday morning for the practice day. We really need to thank Rick Heffernan Racing for getting the engine done in time when the parts needed only arrived to him at 11am Thursday morning. We also really need to thank Chas Hern for giving us a bed and for helping to fit the engine and stickers Thursday night. Sorry to keep you up to 3am mate, but the bikes did look cool.

Saturday saw Brando qualify in 5th place in the 70cc class; however after a days racing Brandon could not better that position in the final placing. Brandon did turn his fastest lap ever of Broadford, but the other boys really lifted, and should be congratulated on excellent results. Special mention must go to Zac Zanesco who won ever race to take out the big prize. Zac has definitely been the one to beat all year, and is a deserving winner. We were real happy to see Zac pull it off after a couple of disappointments the last two years. Well done mate.

Hayden Demamiel again impressed everyone with his skill and speed to take out the 80cc class. He was pushed real hard by Matty Davies all day, but managed to hold on for a great win. Well done mate, see, told you you could do it.

Sunday saw us compete in the first ever endurance race for juniors. They combined the 70cc bikes and the 80cc bikes together, based on Saturdays qualifying times. We elected to sit out the morning warm up at 9.15am and rest up for the race which was to be held at 2.30pm in extreme heat.

Here is where our day went real bad. A collision between Matty Davies and Brandon off the start after Matt’s bike died off the line, and Brando colliding with the rear of matts bike, saw both transported to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Brandon was diagnosed with a compound fracture of the right Humerous (bicep) with the bone piercing the skin. Matty was diagnosed with a fracture of the Tibia and Fibia in his left leg. Both boys had surgery to fix the breaks on Sunday night. Both ended up have plates and screws fitted to their respective breaks and were released from hospital today.

The crash was purely a racing incident that neither boy could avoid, but we are hoping for a speedy recovery from both. Matty has a ride in England next year and we hope that he is ready and fit for that. Both boys are keen to get back on the bikes and resume the battle

This is our last race meeting for the year, and we cannot go without thanking all our sponsors and supporters that have made it possible for us to race this year.

Chas Hern has helped us so much this year with the bike and with spending time training and offering advice to Brando. Thanks heaps mate; you truly are a great friend

Pete Hern from Hern Engineering for repairing the bike when we came crawling. Thanks for all your help.

Rick Heffernan for supplying wicked fast engines and sticky Saba tyre’s all year, and for getting engines repaired on real short notice. Without them we couldn’t race at all

Geoff Crouch from Ron Crouch Transport for continually supporting Brandon for the last couple of years, without Geoff’s help we wouldn’t be able to get to the race meetings at all. Thanks mate

Draggin Jeans, and Wilful Damage for supplying the team uniforms, and casual clothing for us to wear at the track. With their gear on we look very professional and hope to continue to do so into 2010

To Faraz and all the team at Ugly Fish Eyewear, for the cool sunglasses. Even when Brando looses, or breaks them, the guys are real quick to get him new ones. That helmet is on its way too mate.

To Tim Ball at Skins for supplying the clothing under Brandon’s race leathers. (By the way mate the ambos cut them off, guess you will be getting an email this week begging for a new set)

To the staff and owners at the Bonnie Doon Hotel for their continued support. When funds were needed for spares they were quick to offer their support and funds to get us back on track. Thanks heaps guys, and hope you will be back in 2010.

Steve and Junior from Trinder Bros Racing and Bio-Magnetics for the invaluable advice and direction they have given Brando and I the last couple of years. These guys are the best in the business and they have helped us develop into what we think is a very professional outfit for a junior team.

Kelvin and Jo from Mild 2 Wild in wagga for continually turning out great looking bikes. Even when Brando breaks them they have been able to make the bikes look sensational. Kelvin and I go back a long way and it is great to have them as part of the team.

Wagga Guard Service for the financial support they continue to offer. Thanks to BJ and Lisa for helping us this year

Rory from Gimoto for supplying us with the coolest custom fitted set of leathers at the track. They did there job on Sunday and kept brando relatively safe from harm

Rod from Cutgrapix for supplying the stickers for the Judd Greedy Tribute bikes. They looked sensational

Andrew Gosling for building and maintaining our web site this website.

Nan and Pop for help funding this adventure we call racing. Guess what, we need more money……

Special mention must go to my employer Alatalo Bros for there patience and understanding when I have time off to go racing. I really appreciate them allowing me the time off. Thanks John and to my manager Doug, its over this year so expect to see more of me in the office.

We would like to thank Viperformance and Metrakit Australia, Troy Corser, Paul Edwards and the team from MRRDA, Terry Oniel from the FX series, Preston Motorcycle Club and all the competitors for making it a great year of racing. We expect to announce some great news regarding sponsorship and plans for 2010 very shortly. We are in the process of talking with potential new sponsors for 2010 and think that next year will be bigger and better.

MISS YOU JUDD……..#99

Till 2010………..thanks everyone
